Department of State

The U.S. Department of State is the official international relations arm of the President of the United States. The Department is responsible for formulating, implementing and supporting U.S. foreign policy, assisting U.S. citizens abroad and managing the human and material resources that provide the platform for U.S. foreign policy.

The Department of State offers a variety of internships for college juniors, seniors and graduate students. Candidates must be continuing students who are U.S. citizens. Most internships are during the summer. However, some positions are available throughout the year. As interns, students learn about foreign affairs and perform professional-level work that will provide a stepping stone to Foreign Service and Civil Service careers.
