Department of Interior

As the United States’ principal conservation agency, the Department of Interior is responsible for most of our nationally owned public lands and natural resources. These include parks, wildlife refuges, lakes and river systems, battlegrounds, volcanoes, islands, deserts, and many other land and water areas. An internship with DOI could involve biology, engineering, archaeology, architecture, landscape architecture, hydrology, geology, cartography, history, wildlife biology, leisure studies, park and natural resources management and oceanography.

Here is a list of the various offices within the Department of Interior where students have interned:

  • Bureau of Land Management
  • Bureau of Reclamation
  • Fish and Wildlife Service
  • Minerals Management Service
  • National Park Service
  • Office of Educational Partnerships
  • Office of the Secretary
  • Office of Surface Mining
  • United States Geological Survey
  • Water Resources Division
