The Federal Reserve System, the central bank of the U.S., is composed of the Board of Governors and twelve regional banks. The primary functions of the Federal Reserve are to set monetary policy, supervise and regulate certain commercial banks and other financial institutions, implement laws that protect consumer rights in lending transactions, and encourage financial institutions to meet the credit needs of their local communities. An internship with the Federal Reserve System could involve business, finance, economics, law, or information systems technology.
