Are there other options outside of HACU-arranged housing available for Summer housing in DC? Print This   E-mail This

Non-HACU Arranged Housing Options for DC Interns

If you choose to arrange housing on your own, we suggest that you explore your options thoroughly with safety as your number one concern, convenience to grocery stores and public transportation, and the length of your commute to your internship site.

HACU Housing

As stated in your acceptance, you are free to make housing arrangements on your own. However, as a convenience to you, HACU can arrange your housing. Typical housing arrangements in DC are 2BR w/ 4 interns or 3BR w/6 interns. We anticipate that each intern will pay about $650-690 per month or $150 – 180 per week for a furnished apartment shared with other HACU interns. The rent will be deducted from your bi-weekly paycheck. If you choose to move out during the program, the rent will still be deducted.

Pros

· No upfront costs such as a security deposits, administrative fees, first month’s rent, or cable or phone installation charges.

· No credit checks.

· No need to research the area

· Fully furnished with pots and pans, dinnerware, and linens. All you need to bring is your clothes.

· Properties are close to public transportation and grocery stores.

· Staying with other HACU interns matched according to the personal habits you list on your agreement.

Please understand that you have 72 hours from the time of your acceptance to complete the Intern Agreement. On the agreement you must decide if you would like HACU to arrange housing for you or if prefer to arrange housing on your own. Your answer on the agreement is final and cannot be changed so please consider your answer carefully.

Alternative Housing

The following list of option is provided to make your search for alternate housing easier. The following information is provided by the vendor or retrieved from promotional materials. HACU can make no expressed or implied warranties, promises, or representations regarding the condition, safety, suitability, or desirability of the housing arrangements and/or property and HACU hereby expressly disclaims any and all implied or expressed warranties, promises, or representations regarding the condition, safety, suitability, desirability, or any other aspect of the property or housing arrangements.

The universities listed are all within the District of Columbia district lines, have access to the Metro, and provide housing in line with our summer program dates. Keep in mind that many of these universities have off-campus housing lists of rooms or apartments managed by private owners that may offer more affordable options. Good luck with your search.
