Sequana Tolon with Acting Administrator of SAMHSA, Eric Broderick, DDS, MPH, Rear Admiral USPHS

I applied to the HNIP program because I couldn’t fathom the thought of not taking advantage of such an amazing program. I am a firm believer in the importance of seeking out opportunities that challenge me, while also gaining personal and professional development.

I currently reside in Gaithersburg, Maryland where I am an intern at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration Department (SAMHSA) of Health and Human Services (HHS) of The United States of America in Rockville Maryland. I specifically work in the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) Homeless Programs Branch. My experiences as an intern has positively altered my life in ways that I would have never imagined! I have the wonderful opportunity of meeting various professionals in the field of Psychology and mental health, which has enabled me to learn more about what the federal government has to offer as it relates to employment and other professional development opportunities.

If I had the opportunity to speak with anyone who was deciding whether or not to apply to the HNIP program, I would say the following: “Stop whatever you’re doing at the moment, go directly to the HNIP website and apply!” and “The only person stopping you from reaching your goals and living your dreams is yourself”
