Jorge Lupercio with United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Mr. Mike Johaans

I first heard of HACU from an academic counselor at Madera Community College in Madera, CA.  He advised me to apply for a conference sponsorship to attend HACU’s 20th Annual Conference in San Antonio.  I was excited and enthused to learn that I was selected.  It was there that I learned about HNIP and decided to apply for the summer internship and was also selected by the USDA-Food Safety and Inspection Service based in the Financial Processing Center in Des Moines, IA.  The agency handles the disbursement of payroll for 10,000+ federal employees across the nation.

My experience working with FSIS-FPC was a very worthwhile and beneficial experience.  It was a great opportunity to network and better hone in on my communicational and organizational skills.  The people that I worked with were exceptional, never hesitant to show me how the division operates in its entirety.

While I was with the agency, I was assigned to a special project which helped me to improve my organizational, analytical, and communicational skills; knowledge that I will utilize for my success as I continue my education and prepare for my career.

The HACU National Internship Program is a great opportunity to help you prepare for your career; the networking, the friendships, and possibilities are invaluable for future success.
