LSandoval

I graduated from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) in Laredo TX in 2006 and the HACU internships I did were vital in opening the door to a permanent position in the federal government. I found out about HACU through the Honors Program I belonged to at TAMIU, and my internships have been extremely rewarding both professionally as well as personally.

I participated in HNIP for the Summer 2005 and Summer 2006 terms with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). I interned with the Contracting for Services Division as a Contract Specialist. The FAA’s Contracting Division’s function is to provide quality goods and services in support of the agency’s mission to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world. After both terms, I was exposed to the role that the acquisition workforce plays in the federal government and enjoyed the challenges and tasks that were presented to me as an intern. As a permanent employee, I can attest this has been an invaluable learning experience and undoubtedly a great beginning for my career.

I encourage all students to take advantage of HACU’s Internship Program. This internship experience focuses primarily on professional development but also integrates activities and opportunities which allow interns to grown on a personal level and reap the benefits of the diverse setting DC has to offer. The HNIP summer internships I did were the highlight of my college years, and I recommend everyone walk through the doors HACU can open or you.
