"HACU definitely opened "the doors of opportunity" for me by giving me the chance to conduct biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health. At the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), I was able to enhance my scientific skills in preparation for a medical profession. The title of my research was, "Using Purified, Reconstituted GABAA Receptor to Investigate the Effects of Ethanol and Membrane Composition on Neuronal Signal Transduction", which was carried out in the Laboratory of Membrane Biochemistry and Biophysics. Working at NIH, I was given the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology (such as perform innovative experiments in total darkness using night-vision goggles), and I was also certified by the NIH Radiation Branch to work with radioactive materials approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In addition to research, HACU provided me with convenient housing facilities near the Washington, D.C. area, which gave me the chance to enjoy all that this culturally-packed city has to offer. Thanks HACU!!!!"
